The Simple Things- omniphobia (Glass Tube Records): The Guess

Writer's picture: WTHWTH

A fear of absolutely everything, huh? These days I consider that a healthy, well-adjusted response to life, but in 2001 it was just a clever name.

That is the most fun anyone has ever had with fonts.

So we got us some trio, though not power trio, rock & roll here, is my guess. Guitar, drums, bass, a little bit of keys but not enough to add a fourth member. Granted that description also applies to Rush, but there's only song title that fits outside of power pop/melodic rock (51-2-1), and then there's the dedication of Lovely Girlfriend to Joey Ramone, so I feel pretty confident that this isn't prog in disguise.

The other dedication's to Winston Churchill and it's for a song called Vodkas With Stalin, which bespeaks both intelligence and a sense of humor. So I'm hoping for some fun rock with interesting and funny lyrics, balanced with more serious tracks elsewhere (my money's on The Only Song, What's The Difference, and Lovely Girlfriend, among others).

I want to write more but there's really nothing to say. This one seems pretty basic, which means that if I'm wrong, I will be colossally wrong. But I doubt it, which makes the only real question: is it good?

The answer, and possibly a hoist upon my own petard, on Wednesday.
